CD REVIEWS
"Live '05: Ken Hamm is a shining example of how talent and feeling can transcend time and region. His preferred style is country-blues and his guitar/vocal ability can cause shivers, and chuckles as well. He brings the vibe, so to speak, along with a formidable and entertaining show. On these live CDs he's as much at ease working the songs, room, and audience as his old 30s National steel guitar, which sends out careening silver washes of sounds from elsewhere. Because of his interpretive gifts, Hamm is able to harness all his sources and inspirations with depth and conviction. There's a wealth of expression here and Hamm's skill as a communicator are richly presented on his own compositions Fishing Grounds, He Always Had a Smile, and Full Moon Night. With these and other songs, the country, blues and folk merge into a pure roots style that is Hamm's own.

"...'Fingerlicks'
is one of the hands-down best acoustic guitar recordings
I have heard in a long, long time. Hamm takes the listener on a
delightful journey that encompasses almost every emotion imaginable through
his expert playing.
The largely trio format provides a fully animated sound across such classics
as John Fahey's Last Steam Engine Train and Leo Kottke's Fisherman.
These fit seamlessly with Hamm's originals like the jubilant Burns Lake
Bounce/Swap The Vest or Redhaired Shake or his take on the traditional,
Cooderesque Shenandoah, which positively soars in his capable hands.
Fingerlickin' good would be an understatement."
- Eric Thom, 'Penguin Eggs'
"...'Cross The River' is the
best in an illustrious, Juno-winning career. The recording captures
Hamm's exquisite guitar picking and trademark slide work. He's
an expressive, adventurous vocalist, a thoughtful songwriter,
and he picks banjo and mandolin on 'Cross The River' too. With
great songs and masterful performances, this is a roots music
landmark."
- Joseph Blake, 'Victoria Times-Colonist'
"...If 'Eagle Rock Road' doesn't
turn your crank, you may be in grave danger of voting Tory!
Vetern blues performer Ken Hamm, surrounded by terrific musicians
has put out one of those landmark albums that you absolutely
must add to your collection...
- Gene Wilburn, 'Northern Journey'
"...Plays and sings the blues like he was born and bred
in the Mississippi Delta...maintains their original character
while infusing them with his own interpretive flavor."
